The 10 percent group discount applies to our service fees — the cost we charge for the booking, coordination, and guiding services associated with your safari — rather than to the Uganda Wildlife Authority permit cost, which is fixed at $800 per person regardless of group size. For a group of 8 people, the saving on our service fees at the group rate is meaningful — typically equivalent to one night’s accommodation or the cost of an additional activity for one or more group members. The discount is applied automatically to bookings of 6 or more people confirmed on the same booking reference, with all permits required on the same date or within the same itinerary period.
The gorilla trekking family group consideration
Mountain gorilla trekking permits allow a maximum of 8 visitors per habituated family group per day. A group of exactly 8 fills one family group’s entire daily permit allocation — which means the group treks together, with the same ranger, for the same family group. For groups of more than 8, the party must be split across two family groups on the same day (which means two different encounters, at potentially different locations in the forest) or across two consecutive days (which keeps the group together but requires an additional night at Bwindi). Both options are manageable with advance planning, and we have coordinated many large group gorilla treks that have used one or both of these approaches successfully.
Which family groups are adjacent
For groups of 9 to 16 that want to trek on the same day across two family groups, the family groups assigned should ideally be in the same sector to minimise logistical complexity.
