The species is named for its vivid colouring: a bright orange-gold back and flanks contrasting with charcoal-black limbs and face. In motion through bamboo forest — their primary habitat — golden monkeys are among the most spectacular sights in African primate watching. They move in groups of 30 to 80 individuals, leaping through the bamboo with extraordinary speed and agility, filling the forest with calls.
