Golf and gorilla trips combine rounds at Uganda’s historic courses with gorilla trekking in Bwindi. The best-known courses are Entebbe Golf Club on the shore of Lake Victoria, one of the oldest courses in East Africa, the Uganda Golf Club in central Kampala, and resort courses near Kampala. A typical plan adds two or three rounds around Entebbe and Kampala to a four-day gorilla trip.
Where to play
Entebbe Golf Club, near the airport and the lake, is easy to fit in on arrival or departure days. The Uganda Golf Club in Kampala is a central, tree-lined course. Some lakeside resorts near Kampala have their own courses. Clubs, caddies and equipment can usually be hired; book tee times in advance, especially at weekends.
Planning the trip
Play golf at the start or end of the trip, when you are near Entebbe and Kampala, and keep the middle for the long journey to Bwindi and the trek. Mornings are cooler for golf. Fly to Bwindi’s airstrips if you want to minimise road time.
What to pack
