Toronto to Entebbe Uganda: Canadian Travellers Flight Guide 2027 Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa Ethiopian Airlines flies from Toronto Pearson to Addis Ababa and connects there to Entebbe, a flight of about two hours, several times a day. There are no direct flights from Canada to Uganda. From Toronto, the simplest route is usually Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa, with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, Emirates via Dubai and Star Alliance routings through Europe on Air Canada and Brussels Airlines as the main alternatives. Expect a total journey of about 18–24 hours, and economy returns that often start from around CA$1,300–1,600, more at peak times.

This guide compares the routes and covers the time difference, Uganda visas and health requirements for Canadians.

Toronto to Entebbe Uganda: Canadian Travellers Flight Guide 2027

Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa

Ethiopian Airlines flies from Toronto Pearson to Addis Ababa and connects there to Entebbe, a flight of about two hours, several times a day. It is often the fastest and cheapest option. Because Ethiopian is a Star Alliance member, you can usually earn Aeroplan points on the trip.

Allow a connection of at least 2–3 hours at Addis Bole, which gets crowded at peak times. If the layover is long, the airline’s free transit hotel can turn it into a rest stop. Read our guide to connecting through Addis Ababa.

Turkish Airlines via Istanbul

Turkish Airlines flies from Toronto to Istanbul and on to Entebbe. It offers a generous baggage allowance, a large and efficient hub and frequently competitive fares, and it too is in Star Alliance. Some Istanbul–Entebbe flights arrive in the middle of the night, so check the timing against your first night’s hotel and your onward plans.

Emirates and Qatar via the Gulf

Emirates flies non-stop from Toronto to Dubai, roughly 13 hours, and connects to Entebbe in about five more. Total travel time is longer than via Addis or Istanbul, but the long-haul product is comfortable and Dubai has plenty of connection choice. Qatar Airways serves Canada from Montreal rather than Toronto, which can work if you are flying from Quebec or are happy to position there.

Via Europe on Air Canada and partners

Air Canada and its partners fly from Toronto to several European hubs, from where Brussels Airlines (via Brussels) or other carriers continue to Entebbe. These itineraries can involve two stops but suit travellers who want to use Aeroplan points or break the journey with a few days in Europe.

Routings via London are also possible, since Uganda Airlines flies direct from London Gatwick to Entebbe, but from Toronto this usually means a separate ticket and often a change of airport from Heathrow. If you book separate tickets, leave a very generous margin, because a missed connection on a separate ticket is your own problem.

From other Canadian cities

From Montreal, Qatar Airways via Doha and European connections are good options. From Vancouver or Calgary, you usually connect in Toronto, Europe or the Gulf, and the trip often takes well over 24 hours. Whatever your starting point, book early if you are travelling in July, August or around Christmas, when Canadian school holidays coincide with Uganda’s busiest months.

Time difference and arrival planning

Uganda is on East Africa Time (UTC+3) and does not use daylight saving. It is seven hours ahead of Toronto in summer and eight hours ahead in winter, so jet lag is similar to a trip to the Middle East.

Plan at least one night in Entebbe after arrival, and do not schedule your gorilla trek for the first or second day. Permits cost US$800 (US$600 in April, May and November) and are not refunded if a delayed flight makes you miss your trek date. Our guide to getting from Entebbe to Bwindi covers the onward journey. If you are trekking in Bwindi’s southern sectors, flights into Kigali in Rwanda are worth comparing too.

Visas and health for Canadians

Canadians need a visa for Uganda. Apply online for an e-visa (US$50 single entry) or the East Africa Tourist Visa (US$100) if you are also visiting Rwanda or Kenya, and print the approval. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required on arrival and may be checked at check-in, so book a travel clinic visit several weeks ahead. The clinic can also advise on malaria tablets, which are recommended for Uganda, and on other vaccines. See our guides to the yellow fever certificate and arriving at Entebbe Airport.
