There are no direct flights from Frankfurt to Entebbe. Every route has one stop, and the main options are Brussels Airlines via Brussels (sold by Lufthansa too), Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa, Qatar Airways via Doha and Emirates via Dubai. Total journey times are usually 12–16 hours, and economy returns often start from around €550–650 in quieter months, rising sharply in the European summer and at Christmas. This guide compares the routes, explains what to consider when choosing, and covers the paperwork you need for Uganda.
Frankfurt to Entebbe Uganda: Lufthansa and Alternatives 2027
Lufthansa Group via Brussels
Brussels Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, has flown to Entebbe for many years and is the most popular choice from Frankfurt. You fly the short hop to Brussels with Lufthansa or Brussels Airlines, then take Brussels Airlines’ long-haul flight to Entebbe, which sometimes stops in Kigali. The whole trip is on one ticket and earns Miles & More.
Travellers from elsewhere in Germany can often connect via Frankfurt or Munich on the same ticket. Some Lufthansa Group fares also allow a rail connection to the airport, which is worth checking when you book.
Turkish Airlines via Istanbul
Turkish Airlines flies from Frankfurt and many other German airports to Istanbul, with onward flights to Entebbe. Its wide German network, competitive fares and generous baggage allowance make it a strong alternative, and Istanbul Airport is large and well organised for transfers. Like Lufthansa, Turkish is a Star Alliance member, so miles can usually be credited to Miles & More. Check the arrival time in Entebbe, as some flights land in the early hours.
Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa
Ethiopian Airlines flies from Frankfurt to Addis Ababa, with several connections a day onward to Entebbe on a two-hour flight. It is often one of the cheapest options and is also in Star Alliance. Transfers at Addis Bole can be crowded, so choose a connection of at least 2–3 hours. Read our guide to connecting through Addis Ababa, including the free transit hotel for long layovers.
Qatar Airways and Emirates via the Gulf
Qatar Airways (via Doha) and Emirates (via Dubai) both fly daily from Frankfurt and offer good onward connections to Entebbe. The Frankfurt–Gulf leg takes about six hours and the Gulf–Entebbe leg about five, so the geography adds a little distance. In return you get large, comfortable hubs and wide choices of departure time, and their fares are often competitive in business class. These routes suit travellers with status in Oneworld (Qatar) or Emirates’ Skywards programme.
Other one-stop options include Kenya Airways via Nairobi, which is also useful if you want to combine Uganda with Kenya, and EgyptAir via Cairo. Flight search sites will show these alongside the main routes.
How to choose
Start with the arrival time in Entebbe. An afternoon or evening arrival lets you sleep in Entebbe and drive west the next morning, while a middle-of-the-night arrival costs you sleep before a long first day on the road. Then compare total journey time, connection length and baggage allowance. If you carry camera gear, check cabin baggage rules carefully, as they differ between airlines. Book early for travel in July, August and December, when fares from Germany rise and the best connections sell out.
If you plan to trek in Bwindi’s southern sectors or Mgahinga, also compare flights into Kigali in Rwanda, which is 3–5 hours by road from those areas. Brussels Airlines, Turkish, Qatar and Ethiopian all fly there. Our guide to getting from Entebbe to Bwindi compares the two gateways.
Visas, yellow fever and timing your trek
German citizens need a visa for Uganda. Apply online for an e-visa (US$50 single entry), or the East Africa Tourist Visa (US$100) if you are also visiting Rwanda or Kenya, and carry the printed approval. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required on arrival, and airlines may check it at check-in. Travel clinics in Germany can provide the vaccine. See our guide to the yellow fever certificate.
Leave at least one full day between landing and your gorilla trek. Permits cost US$800 (US$600 in April, May and November), are issued for a fixed date and are not refunded if a delayed flight makes you miss the trek. Our guide to arriving at Entebbe Airport explains what happens after you land.
