Gorilla Conservation Coffee – Uganda’s Most Meaningful Cup
Gorilla Conservation Coffee is Uganda’s most famous ethical coffee brand — a single-origin Arabica coffee grown in the fertile volcanic soils of southwestern Uganda, in the very shadow of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Every bag you buy directly funds mountain gorilla conservation and supports smallholder farming families.
About the Coffee
Grown at high altitude (1,400–2,300 metres above sea level) in the Kanungu and Kisoro districts near Bwindi and Mgahinga, this Arabica coffee benefits from rich volcanic soil, high rainfall, and cool mountain temperatures. The result is a bright, clean cup with notes of dark chocolate, citrus, and blackcurrant — consistently rated among the best East African coffees.
The coffee is shade-grown beneath the forest canopy, which means growing it actually helps maintain tree cover and wildlife corridors connecting the national park to surrounding farmland.
Conservation Impact
A portion of every sale goes to:
- Anti-poaching ranger patrols in Bwindi
- Community health clinics and schools for families who live near the park
- Reforestation projects on degraded land at the park’s edge
When you bring home a bag of Gorilla Conservation Coffee, you are not just bringing a delicious souvenir — you are making a direct contribution to keeping Uganda’s mountain gorillas alive.
Where to Buy
Available at Bwindi and Mgahinga park lodges, Kampala supermarkets, Entebbe Airport duty-free, and online. A 250g bag costs approximately $12–$18 USD. Look for the distinctive gorilla logo on the packaging.
