9 day Uganda gorilla trekking and wildlife safari detailed itinerary
Upon your arrival at Entebbe international airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and guide. You will then be transferred to your hotel to relax and recover from your journey. A short briefing about your Uganda safari tour will be given by the guide. Have a relaxing night at the lodge.
Day 1: Rhino trekking and transfer to Murchison falls
This first day of your 9 day Uganda gorilla trekking and wildlife safari will start with an early breakfast. Depart Kampala for Murchison driving on the Kampala-Gulu highway. Our first stop over will be at the Ziwa rhino sanctuary. Here, we will have the opportunity to encounter white rhinos in their natural habitat. On arrival at the sanctuary, you will be given a safety briefing since the trek is done on foot. Accompanied by experienced rangers, you will trek through the wilderness until you reach the rhinos. Observe them as they graze and interact with one another. Capture your Uganda safari experience with photos and videos.
Proceeding the rhino trekking, you will enjoy a delicious lunch at the sanctuary before departing for Murchison falls. On arrival in the park, you will check into the lodge and relax. Enjoy a scenic view of the Ugandan wilderness.
Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise
Start the day with an early morning breakfast. Embark on a morning game drive on the savanna plains of Murchison falls. The park has the biggest concentration of wildlife in Uganda. Spot the big cats like lions, leopards and hyenas. Elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, antelopes like Jackson’s hartebeests, Uganda kob, oribi, bush backs and many more. Enjoy the scenic views of the savanna plains. This morning game drive will last up to 4 hours. Return to the lodge for an early lunch.
In the afternoon, embark on a launch cruise on the Nile. This 3 hour cruise allows you to enjoy the cool breeze on the River Nile. More to that, you will enjoy spectacular views of wildlife by the banks of the river. Elephants, water bucks, crocodiles and hippos can be on this boat cruise. This cruise takes you to the bottom of the Murchison falls. Enjoy stunning views of the falls. Disembark and hike alongside the falls to the top of the falls. Here, the Nile is forced through a 7 meter gap just to fall 50 meters into the Albert Nile. The guide will later transfer you to your lodge for the night.
Day 3: Transfer to Kibale national park
On the morning of this 9 day Uganda gorilla trekking and wildlife safari, you will check out of your lodge and depart for Kibale national park. Driving alongside the scenic Albert Nile, you will have a lunch break en-route. On arrival in Kibale national park, you will check into the lodge and relax for the evening.
Day 4: Chimp trekking and evening community walk
Today, we will go chimpanzee trekking in the tropical forest of Kibale. The park is the best destination for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing. Here, you will be given the guidelines to ensure a smooth trek. Head into the forest in search of these chimps. On making contact, you have an hour to observe these special primates. Since they share 95% of their DNA with humans, the facial features are amazing. See them interact, play and groom each other. Other primate species include; black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, red tailed monkeys, grey checked mangabeys and many more. Return to the lodge for lunch and relax for the afternoon.
In the evening, venture out for a community visit in the Bigodi wetland. Visit the locals and get to experience their way of life. Learn how the local crafts are done. You will return to the lodge for the night.
Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park
After a successful chimp trek, depart Kibale national park for Queen Elizabeth national park. The scenic drive allows to enjoy the crater lakes in Fort Portal. More to that, you will the amazing views of the Rwenzori mountains as you near Kasese town. On arrival in Queen Elizabeth, check into the lodge and enjoy a relaxing evening. You have an option of venturing into the park for an evening game drive.
Day 6: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise
Start your day with a hot breakfast. After which you will transfer to the Kasenyi plains for a morning game drive. In a customized safari vehicle, you will have panoramic views of the savanna grasslands. The wildlife to encounter include; lions, leopards, hyenas, elephants, buffalo, antelopes and much more. This park is famous for its tree climbing lions. You will then return to the lodge for an early lunch.
Head to the Kazinga channel for a launch cruise to the Mweya peninsular. Here, you will see elephants, water bucks, hippos and crocodiles by the banks of the channel. This boat cruise also allows you to have amazing encounters of the numerous bird species. With over 600 bird species in the park, this cruise is heaven for bird lovers. Retire to the lodge for overnight after the cruise.
Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi
Following a restful night, depart Queen Elizabeth for Bwindi impenetrable national park through the Ishasha sector. This sector not only has numerous wildlife but hosts a big number of tree climbing lions. Proceed to Bwindi through the beautiful scenery of the rift valley, tea plantations and terraced hills. Arrive in Bwindi and check into the lodge and enjoy the forest views
Day 8: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi
Gorilla trekking is the highlight of any safari in Uganda. Here, you will have to trek into the impenetrable forest in search of the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. This trek begins with a briefing at the park headquarters. You then are divided into groups of 8 to trek the different gorilla families. You will be led into the forest by armed rangers.
Trekking through the forest, you will be given information about the gorillas and the other inhabitants of the forest. On making contact with the gorillas, you will get the opportunity to observe them as they eat, play, and care and groom each other. You are allowed an hour with these beautiful primates. Take pictures and videos of your time in the forest but remember to switch off the flash mode. After your time with the gorillas, you will return to the lodge and relax for the evening.
Day 9: Transfer to Kampala.
This is the last day of our 9 day Uganda gorilla trekking and wildlife safari. We will check out of Bwindi impenetrable national park and head for Kampala. The scenic drive through Kabale offers magnificent views of the rolling and terraced hills of Kabale. Have lunch en-route at Igongo cultural center. Make a stopover at the equator monument in Kayabwe before proceeding to Kampala. On arrival, the guide will drop you at your hotel or airport. This will mark the end of your 9 day Uganda gorilla trekking and wildlife safari.

Guidelines for Gorilla trekking
- Keep a distance of 7 meters between you and the gorillas at all times.
- Keep your mask on during the encounter with the gorillas to prevent communicable diseases
- Avoid direct eye contact with the gorillas as this can be construed as intimidation
- Keep your voice low during your interaction with the gorillas
- Stay as a group during your interaction with the gorillas to avoid confusion within the gorilla family
