7 day Uganda gorilla trekking and wildlife safari detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park.
On the morning of your 7 day Uganda gorilla trekking and wildlife safari, you will be met by our safari guide/driver. After a short briefing, you will embark on your journey to Queen Elizabeth national park. We will have a breakfast break at the equator. Here, we will have a good photo experience at the equator monument. Proceed to Queen Elizabeth national park through Mbarara town. Check into the lodge on arrival and relax for the afternoon. Later in the evening, we will venture out for an evening game drive. As the heat of the day dissipates, the predators come out to hunt. We hope to have amazing encounters of lions, hyenas, leopards, elephants, hippos and plenty of antelope. Retire to the lodge for the evening and night.
Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise
After a restful night, you will enjoy an early breakfast before heading to the savanna for a morning game drive. More wildlife can be spotted giving us a chance to see the wildlife we may have missed the previous game drive. This game drive is more relaxed. Stop and admire the beauty of the wildlife species found in Queen Elizabeth national park. The game drive will last up to 4 hours after which you will return to the lodge for an early lunch. In the afternoon, we will head out for a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel. This channel connects Lakes Edward and George. The boat cruise not only offers amazing wildlife scenes of elephants, hippos, crocodiles and water bucks, the channel is home to over 600 bird species in the park. This is a haven for bird lovers. The cruise will last up to 2 hours. Return to the lodge for a relaxing evening and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park
After a successful wildlife safari expedition in Queen Elizabeth, we will turn our minds to gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Enjoy a lazy breakfast before departing Queen Elizabeth for Bwindi. Driving through the Ishasha sector, there are chances of seeing the tree climbing lions. The drive to Bwindi is scenic since we will be driving in the Albertine rift. The step rift valley is ornamented with beautifully terraced hills and tea plantations. On arrival in Bwindi, we will check into the lodge and enjoy the views of this primeval forest.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is one of the top safari activities in Uganda. It involves trek into the lush green untamed forest in search of the mountain gorillas. On the morning of this excursion, we will have a warm breakfast before proceeding to the park headquarters. At the headquarters, the rangers will brief you on the guidelines of gorilla trekking. You will be divided into groups of 8 to trek the different gorilla families and off you go. The rangers will create a path for you as you trek through the thick undergrowth in the forest.
On making contact with the gorillas, you will have an hour to spend with them. In this time, you will observe them as they feed, behave and learn about their family dynamics. Take pictures and videos to share with your loved ones. Depending on the location of the gorillas, gorilla trekking can last between 3-8 hours. Be sure to carry a packed lunch in case the trek goes longer than expected. Return to the park headquarters for your gorilla trekking certificates after the trek. You have an option of doing a community walk in the evening or just recover from the trek by relaxing at the lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Lake Mburo national park
On day 5 of this 7 day Uganda gorilla trekking and wildlife safari, we will depart Bwindi impenetrable national park for Lake Mburo national park. The scenic drive takes you through the beautiful landscape of Kabale. The rolling hills and terraces offer spectacular scenery. Enjoy an amazing lunch at the Igongo cultural center. On reaching Lake Mburo, check into the lodge and enjoy the sunset over the wilderness.
Day 6: Nature walk and boat cruise in Lake Mburo
Begin this day with a warm breakfast before heading into the savanna woodlands of Lake Mburo. Here, we will take a nature walk in the wilderness for close encounters with the wildlife. Although the park doesn’t have big game like lions and elephants, the nature walk allows you to have close encounters with giraffes, big herds of impala, zebra and eland. Other wildlife species in the park include buffalo, leopards, hippos, bush bucks, topi and many more. The nature walk will last up to 3 hours.
The afternoon boat cruise on the lake allows you to relax and enjoy the serenity of the African wilderness. Hippos and crocodiles can be seen in and by the banks of the lake. Bird species like African fish eagle, Amalekite kingfisher, Egyptian geese, and lapwing are some of the bird species that can be seen on the boat cruise.
Day 7: Transfer to Kampala
On this last day of this amazing 7 day Uganda gorilla trekking and wildlife safari, we will check out of Lake Mburo national park for Kampala. Enjoy lunch at the equator before proceeding to Kampala. On arrival, the guide will drop you at your residence, hotel or airport. This marks the end of your 7 day Uganda gorilla trekking and wildlife safari

Guidelines for Gorilla trekking
- Keep a distance of 7 meters between you and the gorillas at all times.
- Keep your mask on during the encounter with the gorillas to prevent communicable diseases
- Avoid direct eye contact with the gorillas as this can be construed as intimidation
- Keep your voice low during your interaction with the gorillas
- Stay as a group during your interaction with the gorillas to avoid confusion within the gorilla family
