12 days Uganda safari tour Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison falls national park.
After a briefing by the guide, we will set off on our 12 days Uganda safari tour. We will head towards Murchison falls national park. We shall make a breakfast stop at Kabalega diner before embarking on Rhino trekking. This is done at the Zziwa rhino sanctuary. On this Uganda safari activity, we will be given a safety briefing before going for the trek. We will walk on foot to locate the different rhinos in the sanctuary.
On seeing the rhinos, the rangers will answer all the questions you might have about the rhino. We will spend 15 minutes with each rhino family so as not to irritate them. After the trek, we will depart the sanctuary and head toward Murchison falls national park.
On arrival, we will check into the lodge and relax for the evening.
Day 2: Morning game drive and Boat cruise
Following a restful night, we will have an early breakfast in preparation for our morning game drive. This early game drive gives us a chance to see the nocturnal before they go into hiding. Lions, leopards, hyenas are on this list. More animals like elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, kobs, oribi, and hartebeest can be seen on this game drive. This drive can last up to 4 hours. We will return to the lodge for an early lunch in preparation for the afternoon boat cruise.
The boat cruise is on the Albert Nile and takes us to the bottom of the Murchison falls. We will board the boat at Paraa landing site, going up stream. We will see more wildlife on this cruise like hippos, crocodiles, elephants, kobs and buffalo. Birds like African fish eagle, saddle billed stalks, woodland kingfisher can be seen on this cruise. At the bottom of the falls, we will disembark and start our hike to the top of the falls.
The hike to the top is no very strenuous and offers amazing views of the Murchison and Uhuru falls. At the top, you will get to see and feel the power of the falls. The guide will pick you and transfer you to the lodge for the evening.
Day 3; Transfer to Kibale National park
This day of the 12 days Uganda safari tour will see us depart Murchison falls national park for Kibale national park. We will drive through the scenic Albertine rift. We will have a stop in Hoima and proceed to Kibale. On arrival, we will check into the lodge and relax for the evening.
Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi Wetland
After breakfast, we will head to the park headquarters for a briefing before the chimpanzee trek. We will venture into the forest in search for the chimpanzee trekking. On making contact, we will get to observe them as they swing from tree branches, eat, play and groom. The rangers will be available to answer any of your questions. Other primates like grey checked mangabeys, black and white colobus, and red tailed monkeys can be seen on this trek. We will return to the lodge for lunch and a relaxing afternoon.
Later in the evening, we will head out to the Bigodi wetland for a walk. This walk is relaxing as we enjoy the beautiful birds like the rare great Turaco. If you are lucky, we might spot a sitatunga. We will return to the lodge for the evening.
Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park.
After a restful night, we will depart for Queen Elizabeth national park. We will have a stop in Fort Portal and visit the Amabere caves and the crater lakes. The scenic views is magnificent. We will continue to Queen Elizabeth with the amazing views of the Rwenzori Mountains. On arrival, we will check into the lodge and retire for the night.
Day 6: Game drive and boat cruise
On this day of our 12 days Uganda safari tour, we will head out for an early morning game drive on the Kasenyi plains. Here, we will have amazing sighting of wildlife like lions, leopards, elephants, hippos, and antelopes. This drive lasts up to 4 hours and we will head back to the lodge for an early lunch.
The afternoon boat cruise on Kazinga channel is a relaxing yet adventurous activity. More wildlife like elephants, crocodiles, hippos and buffalo can be seen on this cruise. With over 600 bird species, you will have your fill on this cruise. We will return to the lodge for the evening.
Day 7: Crater drive and evening game drive.
After a late breakfast, we will head out for a crater drive. These crater are a result of volcanic activity and they make amazing scenery. We will have an amazing time viewing and enjoying a picnic by the lakes. We will return to the lodge.
In the evening, we will venture out for an evening game drive. This game drive allows to see the wildlife we may have missed on the previous game drive. More so, we get to enjoy the wildlife more at our pace. We will head to the lodge for the night.
Day 8; Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest.
We will depart Queen Elizabeth national park for Bwindi through the Ishasha sector which is famous for the tree climbing lions. On arrival in Bwindi, we will check into the lodge and enjoy the amazing views of the canopy of the forests. The sounds of the forest make for a relaxing evening.
Day 9: Gorilla trekking and Batwa experience.
Early in the morning, we will head to the park headquarters for a briefing. In this briefing, we will be taken through the guidelines of Uganda gorilla trekking. These are meant to protect both the gorillas and those doing the trek. We will be divided into groups of 8 to trek particular gorilla families.
We will begin our trek into the forest with a walking stick in hand. On making contact with the gorillas, we will have an hour with them. Here, we will observe them as they eat, play and interact with each other. The rangers will answer any questions you may have. After the trek, we will return to the lodge for a relaxing afternoon.
Later in the evening, we will venture out into the community to interact with the indigenous people, the Batwa. We will get to experience and learn about their way of lives. The food, culture, music and way of life is seen and experienced on this Uganda cultural tour. We will retire to the lodge for the night.
Day 10: Transfer to Lake Mburo
We will depart Bwindi Impenetrable forest and head for Lake Mburo national park. This drive is scenic, offering amazing views of the rolling hills of Kabale. We will make a stop in Mbarara for lunch before proceeding to the park. On arrival, we will check into the lodge for the evening.
Day 11: Game drive and Boat cruise.
Lake Mburo is the smallest national park in Uganda but offers amazing Uganda wildlife safaris. On this game drive, the number of zebras and impala make an amazing game drive. The giraffes, leopards, buffalo and elands make it worthwhile. This drive will last up to 4 hours.
Later in the afternoon, we will go out for the boat cruise on Lake Mburo. This cruise offers serene moments on your Uganda safari. African fish eagles, Amalekite king fishers, turaco are some of the bird species that can be seen on this cruise. Other wildlife like crocodiles, hippos and buffalo can be seen too. We will return to the lodge.
Day 12; Transfer back to Kampala.
On the last day of this 12 days Uganda safari tour we will depart for Kampala. We will make a stop at the equator for some photos before proceeding to Kampala. On arrival, the guide will drop you at your hotel or the airport. This will mark the end of your 12 days Uganda safari tour.
